Popular sovereignty
The power of government comes from the people.
The information we have learned in class throughout the entire year connects to the meaning of popular sovereignty, because when we have learned about how our government is structured and the history of different laws, the were made and some abolished. You can always see a common theme, which is that all the government made decisions that we learned about where all decided based off of the people's decisions. Showing that the people give the government their power.
Unit 1
Foundations of Government
Unit 1 study guide
In the unit 1 study guide one of the page states that a topic we learned about was the political structure of the government. In this topic we learned that every decision the government makes is based on the people's opinion, and that the government would not be able to make any decisions without the citizens input.
Comparing colonial regions
The assignment Comparing Colonial Regions is about how the different regions of the country compare. But one important thing that was also explained was that the government was sculpted around these differences and similarities showing popular sovereignty.
Unit 2
Revolutionary America
The spotify playlist I made in unit 2 of this year shows popular sovereignty when it represents all the different events that happened that built on America's freedom and how every decision made were because of what the citizens thought.
Popular sovereignty is also shown in the Declaration of Independence. This is when it states that in section 4 of the Declaration of Independence is dedicated to the Statement of prior attempts to redress grievances. This means that the government addresses is the complaints of the citizens and adapts and structures the government around that. Now you can understand why popular sovereignty is shown in the declaration of independence.
Unite 3
Creating the Constitution
Great compromise
The Great Compromise was a compromise that happened between multiple states because of a difference in opinion. This difference in opinion would not have happened if there was no popular sovereignty in those states. This is because if the ideas of the citizens were not represented by the government this would not have happened. Showing the popular sovereignty in the Great Compromise.
Should the constitutional convention be considered successful
When learning about the Federalists and Anti Federalists we learned that the Federalists did not think it was a good Idea to have a central government and give them so much power, in fear of losing the popular sovereignty the nation is aiming for.
Choice board for each of the branches of government
This assignment from unit 4 known as the choice board for each branches of government is very important to support that every assignment we did includes popular sovereignty . This is because in the judicial choice board it is clearly shown that the decisions made by government and new laws made are on opinions of the citizens and incidents they have experienced.
Unit 4
The constitution
SHOULD THE CONSTITUTION BE RATIFIED CER
This CER done in unit 4 is about why the constitution either should or should not be ratified. This represents popular sovereignty because my CER states that the constitution protects the people's rights and that everyone should be run by one government supported by the citizens.
Unit 5
The citizen in society
In unit 5 of the year we learn about the citizen in society. In this unit we made a video of the rights and responsibilities of a citizen. Te video we made states that the citizen has to choose and vote for who they want to run the country showing popular sovereignty. This is also how the assignment what does it mean to be a citizen shows popular sovereignty.
